About Rhino Rugby
Rhino Rugby South Africa (Pty) Ltd manufactures and sells Rugby Balls, Hit Shields, Tackle Bags and Tackle Suits, Scrum Machines, Training and Match Equipment and Rugby Leisure Clothing.
Rhino is most famous for being the first company to develop mass produced scrummaging machines in the late 1970’s, and in recent years it has also become a world leader in specialist equipment to train for the breakdown phase of rugby. Rhino is one of the leading rugby brands in the world and has become part of the very fabric of the game itself.
South African Rugby is deeply embedded in the DNA of Rhino Rugby with South Africa being the first country into which the company expanded in the early 1980s. The locally manufactured original ‘Powerhouse’ machine was acquired at that time by many leading school, university and provincial sides. Many of those highly durable machines are still to be found on South African training grounds to this day.
Rhino was additionally a supplier to the 1995 Rugby World Cup, supplying the pitch kits for all games including the famous final, a fact which resulted in Rhino staff being invited to the World Premier in London of the movie ‘Invictus’, having provided technical assistance to the production.
Following the 2009 British Lions Tour to South Africa, SARU acquired one of the Lions’ Rhino Dictator scrum machines, which was liveried in green especially for the Springboks and has been used by them since.
Rhino Rugby SA is committed to the development of superior skills in the safest possible way to develop and grow our rugby players from an early age. The fact that the Springboks have chosen our equipment is testament to the quality and effectiveness of the products
